COX SPRINT WINNER ON HANK
LOWER NIGHT
A packed house saw Tim Cox, Danny Trent, Jamie Garrett,
Ryan Wilson, and Mark Mason win feature races Saturday, June 13, at the Baer
Field Speedway on American Legion Night.
The HOSS sprint series made there first of four visits
to the 1/2 mile at Baer Field. They were twenty strong. The feature saw
Greg Wheeler sitting on the pole by way of a ten inversion. When the green
flag dropped Wheeler set sail followed closely by Ron Koehler. On lap seven
Tim Cox took the lead with Wheeler in second. By lap eleven Jimmy McCune the
fast qualifier was in second. On lap 20 Cox encountered the slow moving
sprint of Steve Ball, Jr. and McCune took advantage and took over the lead,
but Cox would not be denied. He worked his way ever so close to McCune and
on lap 24 took back the lead. Cox went on to win the 30 lap feature over
McCune, Hank Lower, Jeff Banyas, Wheeler, Chris Neuenschwander, Sondi Eden,
Kyle Flint, Eddy Kelley, and Teddy Alberts rounding out the top ten. Sprint
heat winners were Jerry Caryer, Banyas, and McCune. McCune set fast time at
15.145.
The 30 lap late model feature saw a inversion of 12
which put Randy Cook on the pole. Cook took the early lead for seven laps
when Danny Trent took the lead. Trent was hounded by Bob Kissinger for eight
laps. On lap 20 Billy Hutson took over second place and tried to real in
Trent. At the checkered flag Trent won by just a 1/2 car length over Hutson.
3rd - 10th were Kissinger, Densil Brumfield, Derek Hoffman, Ed Spangler,
Cook, Justin King, Bobby Bering, Jr., and Chad Richardson. The late model
heat winners were Cook and Brian Barcus with fast time set by Hoffman at
18.891.
The 20 lap street stock feature saw Larry Vandall on
the pole with Paul Murray on the outside. When the green flag flew Murray
set a torrid pace. Murray held the top spot until lap 12 when Jamie Garrett
took the lead passing on the outside. Garrett went on to win over Alex
Vonderau, Dean Cook, Murray, Vandall, Curt Campbell, Joe Kunberger, Steven
Russell, Shane Brumfield, and Jacki Vonderau. Heat winners in the street
stocks were Jacki Vonderau and Vandall. Jared Neal set fast qualifying time
of 17.454.
The 15 lap mini stock feature saw Justin Kelley take
the early lead followed by Mark McBride who took the lead on lap two.
McBride lead until lap 13 when Ryan Wilson took the point. Wilson went on to
win the first feature of his career. 2nd - 8th were M. McBride, Brad
McBride, Kelley, John Puff, Andrew Jones, Dick Soule, and Chris Thompson.
Wilson won the heat event while Brad McBride set fast time at 18.818.
The 12 lap front wheel drive feature saw Steven Derouin
lead for one lap. Blaine Miller took the point on lap two on lap 7 Mark
Mason took the lead for keeps. 2nd - 7th were Miller, Jeff Shelmadine,
Derouin, Chuck Agnew, Terry Lee, and Sherri Nuttle. Mason won the heat and
Shelmadine set fast time at 19:347.
A special presentation for his 50 years of racing was
held at intermission for "Hurryin' Hank" Lower. He received a jacket and
numerous awards.
Racing returns to Baer Field Speedway on Saturday, June
20 as WILD 96.3 FM presents HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR NIGHT! All area 2009 HS
graduates will be admitted FREE with coupon. The racing will see the return
of the Superpro Late Models Series in a 75-lap Feature along with Modifieds,
Street Stocks, Mini Stocks, and Front Wheel Drives. Time trials are set for
5:30 and racing at 7:30 p.m.
